Joe Horne
Majors: (B.S.) Computer Network and System Administration, (B.S.) Scientific and Technical Communication
Club Role: Member 2022
During his internship with Heartland Business Systems in Appleton, WI, Joe was put in charge of upgrading an entire company's emails. He had to go to each computer and find what version of Microsoft Office it had, what operating system it ran, and where it was located on the shop floor. Some computers could not be updated due to special programs on the computers, and these needed to be documented. After he upgraded the ones he could, Joe delivered his report and documentation to his mentor. This was a great experience for Joe because it gave him an idea of the responsibility that would be given to him in a full-time position and demonstrated the importance of clear documentation in the workplace.
After graduation, Joe plans to move to Appleton and work for Heartland Business Systems in a full-time position. He is excited about the future and is certain he will have a lot of fun in the area.

Lydia Rotman
Major: (M.S.) Biological Sciences
Club Role: Member 2022
Lydia just finished her one-year thesis where she studied two proteins, the retinoblastoma protein and p130, that are crucial to cell cycle regulation. These proteins sometimes retain function in cancer cells and cause cancer therapy drugs to be less effective. By studying these proteins she hopes to shed some light on the intricacies of how cancer cells evade treatment. This project has inspired Lydia to enter the biotech industry and continue to do lab work that will benefit people.
After graduation, Lydia plans to take the summer off before finding a job in St. Louis, MO within the biotech industry.
